Power Antenna

My power antenna (early 85 944) Is dying, so I ordered a new one. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get to it. Anyone know? Please tell me I don't have to take the entire freakin' quarter panel off just to do this.

You have to remove the charcoal canister. Think there might be a protector panel in front of or attached to the canister.

You working on it today? Send me a PM with directions.

Cannister has to be dropped....

....be careful with the cannister. After removing my antenna I notice (2 weeks later) a fume smell coming from the front of the car. My idle also started to surge when hot. The male connectors on top of the cannister are a little brittle by now and one of mine had cracked.

Got some plastic jbweld type stuff from autozone and fixed it up. You may want to change the hoses to the cannister while in there.

My power antenna was acting up a few months ago. It would work sporadically, and sometimes only come up half way, etc.

I replaced the mast, and it has worked flawlessly since.

Make sure to use the old antena wire to pull the new one through. From what I have heard its a PITA.

Actually it was quite easy. I turned the radio on and took out the old mast. Then I inserted the new antenna cable and turned the radio off. The mast went down properly.

Thanks guys! It'll probably be next weekend since I don't have the part yet (still being shipped) but if anybody wants to stop by feel free. . . I've got a bunch of other little things I could always use a hand with too. This weekend it's the A/C system (ordered the Ian's 134a conversion kit) so hopefully that'll show up tomorrow.
