Rebuild of 944/951 engine
 

Well, rebuild... as i said before i'm planning on doing a low cost/high result rebuild. No useless replacements of parts that'll still do more than 100k or so.

But, because of my interest in engines and my current study (Automotive Engineer) i'm really keen to get the engine out and start working on it.

Of course, taking the engine out will result in removing almost all parts surrounding it (a lot!). Of course i'll have to do it anyway but should i do this right after I start the project or should i be doing some other stuff before taking out the engine??

Just make sure you have the space, time, funds (X3 what you budget), reference materials, patience, and are emotionally stable........

Last thing you want to do is find a cylinder bore scored like Wolf did and go crazy and start thinking of doing LT1 conversions :D

P.S.... good luck on doing a low cost rebuild on a turbo........ buhahahahaha........ once you open her up .... you will start thinking ...bigger turbo, MAF, intercoolers, 3" exhausts, performance clutches, big brake conversions, fuel rails, FPR etc....and the list goes on and on............

Yeah, pretty sure someone has to hold me back in the process ;)

But you think it's ok to take it out (as if it's just a two second job ;)) before doing anything else.

Also: what should i REALLY NOT do? And do i need some very specific tools to get it out in proper way?

Of course i have the workshop manual here, i've got the haynes thingy and from Clarks Garage i also got his view on taking out the engine. Nice info, but any practical info is very welcome!!

Go slow, Label everything, stay clean and orginized. Alos find all the proper torque specs on all the bolts, Dont be cheap on gaskets.

Crazy huh?..........pretty strong words from a guy in need of a wastegate pipe!!!:D
