factory alarm unwiring

Can somebody point me toward an alarm wiring diagram?
mine hasn't worked since i bought it, and i'm sick of turning on deforst and headlight to start the car. its a little hard to understand why anybody would wire it up that way.

i'm going to remove the whole thing if i can.

Thanks for any help!!

Do you have the key for your alarm, and will it work with my 83? I wanted to tear mine out but it looks like that's just inviting trouble.

I believe that if you remove the key switch for the alarm, the car will not start.

Thats a nice pair of graphics Don!!

Well, no i don't have a key for the alarm unless the door or ignition key fits.

Heres the thing: it makes clicking noises every time i open the door or hood...i'm guessing the horn would be going off if it were hooked up to the alarm? And yeah, it really does sound like trouble tearing out the alarm. BUT, my wiring is already a mess. i'm really just sick of turning on the headlights and defrost to start it.

maybe somebody lost the key (with the alarm on)and then bypassed the alarm somehow with the defrost and lights to get it to start.

It sounds to me like the alarm is always armed. The clicking you hear is from the alarm horn relay. This relay is triggered on and off to make the horn sound. The horn should be mounted behind the battery.

What you can try is reach into the driver side quarter panel through the jam vent and disconnect the wires from the key switch. BTW: The slot in the key switch will be verticle when the alarm is turned off, and horizontal when the alarm is armed.

Also, you can remove the key switch and have a lock smith make a key. Carefully pry off the rubber grommet. Take off the mounting nut and push the switch through the hole.
