my clicker don't stop clicking!
I installed an aftermarket wheel in my 86 and for a while all was fine. Now my signals won't cancel (only the left one) Any ideas what happened?

Your turn signal switch is broken.
You need to replace it AFJuvat |
Had the same issue in mine. It was a combination of two things. 1) the turn signal switch auto-shutoff was gummed up, 2) The little shut-off nubs on the back of the wheel are too small.
In my case, I completely dis-assembeled the switch unit, cleaned and re-greased everything, and it works about 75% of the time now (instead of about 2% of the time), but it's still not perfect. |
You should be able to take the turn-signal cancel piece off of the old wheel and put it on the new one. If not, you'll be doing it the vintage-volkswagen way :)
Or master the supreme one-finger-turn-signal. :) |
Mine does not cancel after turning left. Pulled air bag off, steering wheel and horn contact wire coil to expose the turn signal switch assembly. Found the little white plastic cancel thingy that was sticking out in the left side of center hole to have rounded corners/edges. This plastic cancel tab must have sharp edges on top and bottom corners to cancel turn signal switch. I took a small flat file and flattened the top and bottom edges so that corners will be squared once again. It works 100% now. fyi.

I have a complete unit without the headlight washers for sale if you need it.
