New S2 on the block

Hi all

I've been watching the group for a while and decided its time to join in.

I'll post pictures later of my 89 944S2 Stone Grey with black/cream interior.

This is just a hi to all

Quick history:

A 928 or a 944 was a life dream... then I drove a 928. Then I gave up on my dream.... House, car, wife.... etc etc....

Then..... one Monday 4 months ago .. while browsing the web looking for cheap second car, I saw a 944.... the dream was reawakened.

I spent the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on the web, on this forum amoungst others. I looked at 2 cars on Wednesday, two cars on Friday and decided this is not going to work... the quality was below what I expected.....

The last one to look at was way out my price range and a concours finalist, but I had to see what was possible.... so off I went....

One word..... MINE.. I HAD to have it......

I spent 2 hours sitting in it, driving it, sitting in it, walking around it.... touching it....sitting in it ....it had to be mine mine mine.

Saturday morning, I took my wife and brother to see it.... surprisingly, they both said.... you gotta have this... she's beautiful....

And thats how it all started...... Not so cheap..... but after seeing the full service history, invoices for the last four years, plus manuals, tools, jack, sparewheel and pump I figured, I'll pay for the peace of mind....

Enough said.....

Work done
--------------
Oil leak from tapet cover.... fixed when inspecting chain tensioner
Broke clock while fitting new bulb :(

All the other major stuff like belts and water pump etc have already been done in the last 20000kms by PO's
Current 186 000 KMS

Possible mods/fixes
-------------------------
(I'm in two minds about stock or non stock)
968 mirrors and door handles
New speakers
New wiring for sound
New door rubbers - slightly worn

Cool!, I don't think I've ever seen a pic of a right hand drive S2!

Brando 06-09-2004 01:21 PM

Me either but that's freakin AWESOME. Very nice looking car :D

Texas944 06-09-2004 10:51 PM

I noticed that the booster is still on the left hand side - is this a factory RHD car, or did someone rod the brake pedal when they converted it?

StoneGrey 06-09-2004 11:33 PM

Thanks for comps.

Factory RHD..... very stock

Down here ...... we drive on the left..... having a RHD helps ;)

ANOTHER AUSSIE - YOU BEAUTIE..!!

you didnt actually state where you were from and I didnt want to make that assumption! I am origionally from Sydney, now living in Dallas Texas. Will eventually go home one day, when I have enough money to bring ALL the toys back with me.

Paul Glasson 06-10-2004 01:33 AM

Buet-I'm green with envy

StoneGrey 06-10-2004 01:45 AM

aahh.. Mr Texas944... Assumptions.. assumptions assumptions.....

To assume is to make an 'ASS of U and ME'

I'm down here in South Africa.... Not quide as down as down 'there'.... ;)

StoneGrey:
Awesome car! The D-90 wheels look great with that color!

Good to hear you checked the cam-chain tensioner. Very important to keep tabs on it!

Years ago, I spent a summer in South Africa, outside of Port Sheptone, near the Orbi Gorge. What a beautiful country.

Welcome to Pelican - enjoy the car!

StoneGrey 06-10-2004 06:31 AM

Thanks....Z-Man

Beautiful country... beautiful car.....beautiful chain tensioner...Yip I guess I'm pretty lucky.......so far.. ;)

Now all I need are some cool twisty roads..... much more fun than straight highway work.....

One downer though..... I'm living 5000 feet above sea level.... the air's pretty thin up here..... my S2 pumps.. but I can only imagine what it must be like at sea level... where it was meant to be driven.... maybe one day I'll take a 370 Mile road trip to the coast with my wife and porsche babe ( see photo) and really enter the land of bliss.....

Paul Glasson 06-10-2004 07:42 AM

Stone Grey-There is a Porsche Parade in Durban soon. Join the Porsche Club SA and come and spend 4 pleasant days in Durban- Won't be as cold as up country (-1, I believe) Don't know who you get your insurance from, but through the club it's far cheaper-it will pay membership fees off in a month or two.

arnebret 06-10-2004 09:25 AM

DAMN! That's an excellent looking car. So very stock, it's just too stock to even think about doing anything about it ;)

From the outside it's exactly like my '88 951, but now i can finally see how REAL stone grey and original rims looks ;) I still love that colour on a 944. Interior is, in one word: AMAZING. And ever so stock. I just love your car man, have fun with it.

Texas944 06-10-2004 10:44 AM

My mistake - nice car, anyway.

played any cricket lately?
