Well, for me, I went with the Bilsteins and Eibachs rated 220lbs.
Really stiffened the front end and reduced the vertical travel significantly. Lowered the front end approx 1 1/4 ". I dont think that I would want to go with a "heavier" coil...really no previous experience other that I put fresh Bilsteins on my "E" and I was very pleased with the results...the cost was under $500. Hopefully someone with more experience will share some info...

If you want to replace the shocks only, you won't have a choice at the front end; will have to install whichever brand it is (they are not interchangable).
But if you want to switch brands, you might have to replace the whole strut, and it's abit more $$$.

I'm in need of shocks too (well actually not me but my car) and am going to go with the Koni adjustables to be able to do the MO30 upgrade

I jusr replaced mine with Sachs/Boge OEM shocks, and they feel good enough so far. Then again, I'm operating on a tight budget at the moment. They were about $65 at Vertex last week I think.

just curious, how do you know you need to replace the shocks? i've got an '88 turbo with over 160k miles on it still using the original shocks and they seem to be still working okay. is there anything to look for other than excessive bounce?

...or heavy bottoming out while driving hard!
![]() I have the same mileage on mine and finally lost my right rear a few weeks ago during some hard driving. in a right hander with a somewhat unnoticeable but sharp dip, the car suddenly bottomed out with a good thud and a little shower of sparks. after that, vibrations began building on the right rear and a subsequent inspection of the shock revealed that, yep, it's dead. they're good but don't last forever
