Dual Exhaust
Has anyone run a dual exhaust setup on an n/a or turbo for that matter. Is there enough clearance under there.

I know everything...but I can't figure out why you would want to do this.

the only reason i can see for running a dual exhaust is if you had a mechanical cutout that transfered your exhaust from the stock cat system to a straight pipe.
Now THAT would be fun.

Cj, those are actually pretty funny, especially when the valve is before the muffler, you rig a switch in the car and scare the heck out of any ricer with a "fart can"
chitown, please don't put dual tips on the 944, just wouldn't look right in my opinion, but there should be enough clearance, I would be worried about the gaslines and fuel pump that are cleaverly placed on the passenger side though, that sounds like a very unsafe idea to me, hot exhaust + minor fuel leak= 944 BBQ

i had a friend offer me one of those electric cut-outs. i actually considered going online and ordering a test pipe... i really think it would be a blast, my only concern is the added weight.

Also completely illegal - I don't know what the laws are there, but out here if they catch you with stuff like that on your car you go to jail and the car gets impounded - happened to a guy I know.

In texas if they catch you with cutouts they just drag you in the street and shoot you. But I've heard they leave your car alone.

i seriously doubt the laws are the same in CT vs CA. I have never heard of anyone going to jail for car mods.

The problem is, why would you want dual exhaust on a 4 cyl. engine? Therein lies the problem. You can do it on the 996 since it's a 6. On a 4 there is no gain or reason.

I think the guy got arrested for the noise level or disturbance of the peace or something (I think that's what it was for, I don't think it was directly for the mods, although they cited him for it). He was doing passes up and down a street and someone called the cops on him, who happened (I guess) to be pretty close by. They did a spot check of the car, found the illegal mod and impounded it. Yes, they absolutely CAN do that in CA.

i thought about the dual exhaust setup on a 944 but then i started thinking of the pros and cons about it.
Pro's: maybe sound some looks maybe performance (if set up correctly and dependant upon other mods) Con's: custom heat shield above the muffler and part of the exhaust before the muffler. PITA if the fuel pump and fuel fiter ever needed changing. trying to figure out where the muffler hangers would go (gas tank in the way) saftey issue's fall into play as well. and biggest one of them all, is its a waste of money. if you really want a good sound than i suggest in going with 3" exhaust and a fart can best sound and bang for your buck. im not trying to rip on you for thinking so (becuase i thought about it) just lettin you know what all i came up with.

boxer engines are actually easy to fabricate dual systems for because of their layout. The in-line 944 design is, in fact prety . And, since I am in the process of completely rebuilding the fuel system, I can tell you I would NOT want anything hot on the passenger side behind the rear wheel. You would be looking for a potentially serious problem, not to mention limited access to pump/filter/etc.

adida(r 944)
you mentioned using 3" diameter exhaust. please note that on a NA, you will KILL your low-end torque increasing to such a diameter. turbo is a diff. story
