New member, new 944 owner.... Help please

I just picked up my first 944 a few weeks ago. it has been running great without issues until today. when I got home today and turned the key off everything turned off EXCEPT the engine. radio, lights, fans everything turned off and the engine still ran. someone please help.

I would suspect the ignition switch or the electronic piece that is screwed into the back of the igniiton switch.

so if the engine is running and the key is out. i pull the wires connected to the ignition switch should the engine then turn off?

Exactly right. Pull the connector off the back and the problem should go away. A replacement ignition switch may be in your future. BTW, welcome to the adventure.

thanks mytrplseven, unfortunately the problem did not go away when I pulled the wires from the ignition switch. still need help

seems to me that you have 12 volts coming from some where that is preventing your car from turning off. This is not a common problem and you might want to seek professional help. I am not sure but you could try to put an on/ off switch on the positive coil wire side under the hood just to get your car to shut off for now.

My guess would be that pin 3 on the DME relay is at 12v all the time. Could be a fault in the relay. This pin should only be at 12v when the key is on (from schematic).

Ok update, I got a new relay in today. no luck any other ideas out there?? if not I am going to get harness and re-wire the whole thing.

It depends.

First, what year is your 944? If it is before 1987, I probably will be guessing.

If it is a 1987 or later car, I may give you some pointers since I traced a very similar problem to BAD wiring coming from the fuse box blocks. Do you have any records of maintenance done prior?

Also, were are you located?
