944 - Slight Oil Leak

i remembered a posting here a few months ago but...i have a small amount of oil that appears to be coming from the area beneath the oil filter. It doesn't look like it is from the filter itself but from where the mount is attached to the block. The area is quite constrained and it is difficult to get in there to really see what might be happening. Is this a common source for the leak? I can't see any place else that it could be coming from.

If you're talking about the mounting assembly to the block, its oil cooler seal time for you. I just did mine. Although its usually an internal leak that causes problems. Could also be the oil pressure sending unit - that is directly under the filter.

Oil cooler seal...hmm...i it fairly easy to replace, special parts, hours/days/weeks? Where is the sending unit? Again...it's tuff to see anything in there! BTW...nice to hear from a fellow Pittsburgher!

Get the front of the car up on lacks and remove the belly pan. Then start probing for leaks - you'll have a decent view by then. The sending unit is that small cylindrical-looking thing with two wire leads attached it it directly under the oil filter.

The oil cooler seals weren't impossible, just time consuming for me because I was taking my time. Took one hour per day after work for about 5 days. But I was working on the street here in Mt. Washington and have no garage. My flexible ratchet was my best friend during this undertaking.

If it DOES turn out to be the oil seals, I still have my alignment tool that you can have. It will save you $40. But I really didn't need that special tool anyways...........
