Delaying the inevitable!
My S2 has always burned oil.... +- 9Ltrs in the last 8500kms, but I always knew it was at the higher revs..... until my wife drove behind me and said gee your car smokes everytime you change gears.... and I wasn't driving hard! So now I can't get it off my mind...
I probably know the answer to this question... but I would prefer not the think about it.... How do I stop the engine from smoking....?

The exhaust after town driving is generally black, after a highway trip is white and the smoke, from what I''ve seen in the mirror is white-ish..

I suppose the good news is that it's more likely the head is letting oil through than the rings, at least that's what I've found in these cars. How many km's are on the car?

When the valve stem seals decide to go............ YOU KNOW.

Thanks guys.....
Hmm... The valves could be the way to go..... When the car is cold it makes a loud tacking noise that comes from under the tapet cover. This noise is intermitent while cold and comes and goes with change in RPM. After a few minutes its gone. When I bought the car and had the chain tensioner checked, I asked the macs to listen, they said its probably a burned valve... but nothing urgent. So may it may only be a value job..... I suppose 16 of them is still cheaper than doing rings ![]() Blackfoot : Km wise... 190 000 (118000 Miles) I'm up for a lub service at 191 000 to keep the warranty valid, so I might add it to the list.... Will a leak test be a true indicator.. I'd hate to fix the valves and then 6 months from now have reopen to fix the rings?
