What's so different about a 944S muffler?
I will eventually need to get a new muffler setup for my 87 944S, and in casually looking around at such products I note that the fitment guides often specify "all 944 except S model" (or words to that effect).
Is there any major mechanical reason why an otherwise similar exhaust setup will not work on the S? (And no, I'm not looking for a fart can!!!) Lynn |
Just wondering, but what setups are you looking at right now?
|
The S has more HP, The exhaust may be a different dia. It may have a different flow, or it might even mount different

I bought a standard non-turbo Dansk exhaust for my 944S. I guess we'll see in the spring whether or not it fits...

You know, you may just want to call a place like Speedforce racing - Tim would know all the details on that question and he's a great guy to work with. He knows the exhaust systems on these cars like the back of his hand.

Even though they're visually similar from the rear of the car, the S/S2 mufflers are mounted differently. The bad news is that they're WAY more expensive and very difficult to find as opposed to the 8v cars. I ended up picking one up at a Porsche junkyard just by dumb luck. The quotes I was getting for a new one were outrageous.

Joy. Looks like this may turn into a project that requires welding/cutting.

If you are looking to go stock for your '87 944s an '88 944 n/a and 924s with the M44.09 motor have the identical muffler and tail pipe of the '87 or '88 944s. The M44.10 (auto) don't have the correct nor do the '89 Manual or auto N/A. This may make it a little easier for you to find stock parts.

Thanks for the input folks, especially WaA420... I'll be digging around to see what I can find on the 88 n/a.
And Johnny, I run a site called The 109 Lair... I'll gladly check out your forum, always interested in Luftwaffe topics. |
