Ordering Power Prom 2 Few ?'s

Alright guys i'm buying myself the Power Prom 2 for Xmas haha and I was wondering what rev limit did you guys choose for those of you that have it. I know the stock redline is around 6500rpm is there any advantage on getting the 7000rpm redline? and will the stock motor be stressed to much by running it to 7000rpm? Also has anyone tried smogging their car with the chip in? Does is pass? You guys help is greatly appreciated...

I have the PowerProm2 and its really a great upgrade. I personally went with the stock redline because even in 'hard' spirited driving i try to never go past 5500-6000rpms. I dont feel its necesary to push the car that much (in my opinion). The higher redline maybe usefull in auto-x allowing you too stay in gear longer...etc. But even in auto-x, i try not to enter that area of RPMS (mainly for my conscience, so i dont feel bad beating on the car).

Im not sure if the car will pass a NY state smog with the chip or not, but you can easily switch between the stock and modified fuel maps with a 2-pin connector that is included. The only pain in the butt is that you need to remove the kickpanel...etc each time you want to remove it or put it back in. Sure its only 4 screws, but its the principle of the matter :). I just recently added a switch to mine and have it run to the drivers side...allowing me to just flick a switch pretty much.

Good luck!

I am runnning a Power Prom 2 with no redline HEHEHEHEH. It wont stress the car if you just touch 7,000rpm for a sec or so, I wouldnt go driving around with the engine at 7,000rpm for long amonts of time, The oiling system wonr be able to keep up along wthe the heavy loads on the connection rods.

The chip is a sweeet upgrade, it really added to the rest of the mods I have done. I dont believe you can pass smog testing with the CHip on, since the chip boost the A/F raito richer most of the time. But like said above all you gotta do is pull the connector or add a switch and you good to go.

As for the different rev limits, It can be used for autoX to stay in gear longer, but there really inst much more power past 6,500rpm. SO its up to you and what you want

Just went thru this last week. No, will not pass. Yes, once the altitude sensor is reconnected (with the PP2 still in place). In fact, my tuner was impressed at the emissions test results. Very, very clean....

Kudos to FR Wilk...http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

I want to get a Power Prom chip for my 84 and was wondering... can I send my DME in and have in install that 2 chip board and have the stock chip and the PP chip and have a switch to switch between the two?

yes indeedee! thats the set-up i have. my thinking was to do this for emission testing time, and then change over, as soon as i got the all clear. what you will probably find, is that once you have switched over to pp position, then you switch back, after say, a couple weeks, you will be really dissapointed, with the standard position and will leave it in pp.
the switch is on the side of the dme, and out of the way of your knees. i find this set-up is just great. easy change etc.

Well I deliver pizza's in my 944 so I would use the standard chip most of the time just to save on gas but as every Porsche owner knows...there are certain times where you need to kick it up a notch. I would change the wiring however and put the switch where the sunroof switch is and move that switch to the master fader switch since that was bypassed when I got my new radio.

OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M DOING THIS TO MY CAR WITH MY RACING ADDICTION...IT'S SO DELICIOUSLY EVIL...

Thanks for the helpful responses...does anyone else have any input on the rev limit choice. How about FrWilk? What do you advise? 7K or 6.5K redline choice? Is it even worth getting one that high or does our motor run out of breath up there anyways
