Porsche 944 interior?

Alright, so I was looking into The Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze thing for the home when I came across their advertisement for a mini car version. I looked at the pic and thought to myself, "wait, I know that car!" Check it out for yourself:

http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview.jhtml?sku=SI629ZZZ

Soon to become standard equipment.

Wow that's cool, I wonder why they would choose our cars for this? Why not a 85 corolla or something?

inhaling ozone is bad for you.

it will not keep dust off the dash. The only thing that the car ionic breeze does is release charged ions that make the air "smell" cleaner.

How do i know?

I was a manager at Brookstone for awhile.

the idea behind these is that they ionize the air molecules, creating negatively charged air which smells 'fresh'. however, most cheap units also emit ozone as a side effect, and ozone has been proven to be damaging to your health. it's very difficult to determine if an 'ionic breeze' unit actually emits ozone or not, as it's not something that's regulated by any current laws.

you can read more here;

The negatively charged ions that are emitted by such units are supposed to attach to dust/dirt/pollution particles making them 'heavy' allowing them to fall to the ground. I don't know if the concept is that great unless they are combined with a filtering system for said particles.

They do keep them out of your nose though.

ionic doodads DO make the air smell fresh. i can attest to this.

Cleaning the air, however? Would sir like any snake oil with his automotive ionic breeze?

Take it from me, most of the stuff you get at Sharper Image or Brookstone is either a rip-off or completely useless (the Tempur-Pedic stuff is an exception)

So the Ionic Ionizer emits negatively charged particles to "capture" the positively pollunants in the air.... But what about the negatively charged pollunants in the air? Bet you never thought of that.

Also sharp eye on the dash, but I haven't seen to many gray colored dashes around.

that's what they say, but i don't think that negatively charged ions would make dust/dirt/pollen 'heavier', or that they would even attach to them.

the way the ionic breeze filters (and other ionizing filters) work is that the STATIC electricity on the metal plates will attract dust, this is basically what your computer monitor does.

They really do work, though... If you have one of these and a smoker in the house, you'll really see how they work. We have a LivingAir machine that does basically the same thing. Before we bought ours, I saw a demonstration where a woman soaked a hankerchief with ammonia, and held it in front of the machine. After just a few minutes, you couldn't smell ammonia at all, it was totally gone.

It basically makes your house/car smell like the air right after a thunderstorm. And, at first if you don't have it adjusted correctly or there isn't any circulation, it can make you sick. I was getting sore throats for awhile and I couldn't figure out what it was, until I move the machine farther away from my room and turned the power down.

are you sure you weren't getting sore throats from inhaling ozone?

That's the jist of what I meant to say It wasn't adjusted properly, so it was putting too much ozone in the air... so I adjusted it and moved it to another room, and it's fine.

Sometimes when i talk i forget entire chunks of a thought, so it comes out all f'd up and goofy. I swear, I'm not crazy!

Ozone is 3 bonded oxygen atoms and from what I understand ozone will "shred" anything it comes in contact with. Good for odor particles bad for your soft tissue. I used to have a "hobby" that required a lot of odor removal; ozone was the best for this, but I couldn't be in the room for an hour or two after otherwise my throat would start to feel really raw and my head would spin. BTW it's real easy to make ozone generators, all you need is a 1000v-10000v electric transformer, a sheet of glass, and two pieces of wire mesh.
