924 - Worth the money?
Hey,
Just recently I found a 924 for sale as a project/parts car. I would use it for either, but I am unsure of its real worth. They guy wants NZ$2000 for the whole thing including new motor mounts and some new rear suspension parts. Missing dashboard, sunroof, LH rear glass, and maybe a few other odds and ends. Its a 1981 model, Euro spec - RH Drive, which is standard here. unsure if its 4 or 5 speed, black interior, etc. Seats torn slightly as they generally all are. The guy claims no rust. Its completely stripped back and needs paint and assembly - everything is out. I suppose with freight and total cost its probably US$1000, but dont take my word on that. I was thinking of using it for parts for my current 924 (78 euro) for parts, or vice versa as my one is looking as if its ready to burst out in rust. Would it be worth the money? I am very new to the world of 924's and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

All 1981 924s would be 5 speed, unless it's an auto. Worth it probably for the parts if you intend keeping the other one for a while.

Ok. Do you think it would be worth restoring it? few parts missing and its about 1.5k US to get it, not including putting it together and painting it, not including freight.

Don't know as I have no idea of market prices in NZ. If you can do it yourself and can make sure it runs properly first maybe, possibly perhaps. Otherwise it's a parts car. Compare the prices of a comparable 924 that is complete and can be driven.

Not sure if you have brought it yet but I'd say $2k was ab it rich. I just picke dup a 79 auto registered and WOF but no running for $500. All that was wrong with it is a burnt out starter motor. Inetrior is good and complete and good body shell.
If it is on the exemption register and the motor runs then I'd offer the dude around the $1k mark. If it's not been placed on the exemption register you're looking at about $350 to $1000 to re register depending upon who you get to carry out the reinspection. Iif you want any replacement seats let me know - i've a few sets looking for a home. |
