Porsche Crest How rare is the 924S ?

Over the weekend I took part in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. I had an infield pass and spent a good bit of time walking around and looking at all of the other fans cars. There was a parking lot which was full of P-Cars and nothing else. Included in the fiasco were : 911, 914, 356, 944/944S/944 Turbo, and even a GT2 . However, I did not see one 924S, let alone a 924. So just how rare are these cars?

I have a 924S, the S was only made for 2 years 1987-1988. the thing with the 924 is not that many people want them so not that many people have them.

(24S's Hmmmm.. They are lighter and faster than the 2.5L 944NA's. Buy mine. 88 has the better pistons and compression.

(Off the top of my head- I'm too lazy to look up the actual numbers. If I stumble across them I'll edit this to be correct)6000 plus total produced in 3 years, 4200 made it to the US. The 88's had a "special SEBRING" edition.

this has been covered before, but the 924S weight and output match almost exactly that of the 83-early 85 944, which has a slight advantage over the later cars in terms of performance for this reason. Whether you would notice a difference in performance in the real world is debatable... better just get the Power Prom 2 to cover all your bases

Not rare at all. It is the owners that are RARE. No one likes the looks or power features or lack of them!

Not true- It was marketed a a "inexpensive Porsche" to fill a void in the Porsche offering in 86-88.
It has done exactly that. It was a great way to get into a new Porsche for under the 25K price point.

There was only one 924 there this weekend in the Porsche Paddock. I should know because I was signing everyone in from around 7-10 AM. I was parked up front by the fence with a For Sale sign on it, STILL! They look alot better with the GT Racing rear flares, 944 front fenders and the turbo hood scoop. I put the car on a diet when I removed the front bumper and then put the GT front end fiberglass where the ugly stock one was. Car looks really racy, if I say so myself. I don't know what the weight is now, but it has to be 250lbs. less than a 944.
My car can be seen here on Pelican. Just a cheap plug!
Hey Dallas, can you post some pix of your car so we can see what they look like at speed?
Steve

i drove one while i was looking for a porsche. an 88 924s. It was okay. It kinda set high off the ground and and i didnt like it becuase it didnt set wide like the 944 does. I bought an early 85 944 just becuase i liked how the tach went around backwards. It was okay. but i like the 944 a billion times better.

Porsche Crest Daytona 944!!!

Hey there!

i'm in daytona, i go to ERAU and have an '84 944 and a '92 MX-5. if you ever want to get together, give me a call, 323-8406, or my cell 772-475-7169 (probably better to call my cell). there's at least one black 924S on campus here, there's a red '86 944 that a ROTC dude owns, a black 993, and a silver 993 cab. right now i have the miata at school, but i'm probably going to bring the porsche back up soon. i didn't make it to the rolex, but my roommates did. one of them used to have an '87 951, and the other a 79 911SC targa... anyhow i'm rambling, hope to hear from you!

I went to Rennsport last year and mine was the only 924 there. There was a 931 though. I see fewer of them on the road. It seems that most people dont spend the money to repair them since they are just not worth much.

Everything is subjective. I get SO tired of the 924/924S is crap rant. It's lighter, faster and better (albeit a bit spartan) - Most of the 944 guys havent ever driven one.

very true chris. the 924 is an awesome car. i wish i had one! i drove Mark's car today, and other than needing new shocks and brakes its very solid. i'm SO jealous of the manual windows!!!!

some people call the 944 the poor man's porsche, but we all know that's the 924 :-D

i'd call anyone who owns a porsche of any flavor a rich man, whether he or anyone else knows it or not

peace out!
-Mike-
