Refurbish cookie cutter wheels 1984 944
The cookie cutter wheels on my 944 are in sad shape. Heavy pitting and dull. Is there anything I can do?

Go on YouTube. Edd China did similar wheels on a 924 on "Wheeler Dealers". Google it.

Do a search on this board as well - there have been a few write-ups.

The hard part is going to be polishing the rim lips where it is hard to access close to the lug nuts just because of space. I found aircraft stripper (very hard to find starting about a year ago) instantly removes the clear coat without affecting the underlying aluminum at all. Put it on the black paint as well, then respray the black part, then reclear the rims with Eastwood rattle cans you can get directly from them. The hard part is deciding whether to try repolishing the rim lips. It's easy to do but you'll have to do the whole surface as with only clear atop it any un reached places will show. I'd be tempted just to strip and reclear without polishing even if you have a few spots. Perfection is a pain, where strip and reclear make them look much better.

Or... Hire a shop to restore them (I know it's the lazy in me talking). I think I paid $150.00/wheel.
