upgrades in general

As Fast924s has pointed out, recently I have been asking a lot of questions reguarding upgrades for more speed and power.

So I guess this is everyones chance to list what they have done to there cars to make them better, not necesarly faster, but better all around.

Also post what future mods you have in store, and if you don't mind put up how much each upgrade cost so people like me can know what it takes to do specifics to our cars.

My upgrades are a throttle cam and (i got so much negative crap for this) a tornado. Honestly, I don't see a negative affect and I do get a little better gas milage which is good cause I deliver pizza's 4 nights a week in my '44

I am putting a Chipped DME next week and might do a K&N

My future mods:

Thicker sways
Strut tower brace
Less-restrictive exhaust (cat-delete)
Lightening - rear seat delete, air-con delete, etc.

Auh - What Chip are you going with?

CJ - I'm curious as to what the law is here in CT for emissions & running w/o a cat.... any ideas?

A tornado??? NOT!!! Worse than the dumb throttle cam.

Check and replace the timing and balance belts.

Fix the shifter so it's not loose.

Replace the worn suspension bushings, ball joints, tie rods and shocks.

Replace the U-joints in the steering link. I can sell you a rebuilt one for $150.

Check and replace the wheel bearings as necessary.

Check and replace the CV joints as necessary.

Seal all of the oil leaks.

Get a good alignment.

Check and replace the timing and balance belts.

Chipping the DME is one way to smooth out the power curve as the restrictions placed on Porsche by the EPA clobbers the performance at various points in the acceleration. Get a chip with a known petigree. Wilks made a good one but he is MIA.

You will never get good milage in a 944 in the city. It's made for the open road.

people say to drive 'em but i don't know that i'd want to deliver pizzas in mine.

Here's my list of upgrades if I was to build an NA car for power, probably in this order:

+10-15hp = Euro pistons 10.6:1 compression (later US pistons only 10.2:1)
+20-30hp = 2.8L stroker upgrade
+20-30hp = 4v head
+15-20hp = custom cam & adjustable cam-gear
+5-10hp = 4-1 headers & free-flow exhaust
+5-10hp = MAF conversion
+3-7hp = chip upgrade

+100-150hp = turbo upgrade (swap entire 951 drivetrain or buy a 951)

Not sure. My car only has a couple years until it is exempt from emissions anyhow... besides, it doesn't look like they are getting any closer to sorting out that mess with the new emissions laws...

Live I have been driving around with no cat for like 3 years now with no problem, There was one week that my Fuel tunning was soo poor that at WOT in 4th gear and letting off to shift to 5ht FLAMES would shoot out the exhaust, It was kinda cool, But I have retuned her since then.

with the current no emissions testing feel freee to do whatever, I did pick up a universal fit CAT just incase I need one later.

The cool thing is I can bring my car to Work and hook it up to the exhaust gas analizer and then just tune her for emissions with the ARC2 and go and pass the test (I hope)

I got a great price on a used '87 DME and AFM with a Weiltmiester chip installed. I know its no Wilks chip, but I'm not gonna complain for $250

bigyagi 03-26-2005 11:09 AM

hey fast924s, keep us up to date with all your mods, and please give us your unbiased opinions, on how each upgrade performs. i notice you are looking at a jm cam. i'd be very interested in your comments, after you have it installed!
regards, bob.

fast924S 03-26-2005 01:17 PM

No problem, Im working on getting my engine out today and when ever I get the chance, Im very intrested in JM cams but he seems to not give all his specs for his cams, maybe if I keep asking he will. Anyway I will keep you guys updated as soon as parts start comming ing the door.

Also just got me a digitial camera, no more waiting to use my dads.

you might want to try www.speedforceracing.com they have TONS of aftermarker performance parts for porsches, i found this site last week and i cant stop going there when i get money

SoCal Driver 03-27-2005 11:30 AM

Many of the speed shops will sell you anything they have. It's really up to the owner to figure out which is best for his needs. As I stated above you first want to refurbish the chassis so that any further "improvement" doesn't over whelm the car.
