Axle Interchangability

Passenger side rear axle is broken. Its a 86 automatic. My parts car is a 87 Manual. will the axles be able to be swapped out or and I looking like I need to buy a new one?

There are manual axles for steel trailing arms, manual axles for aluminum trailing arms, auto axles for steel trailing arms and auto axles for aluminum trailing arms.

Then there are the 87-88 turbo axles.

seven different part numbers.

Auto axles are different lengths per side.

:( how depressing. Now I guess i have a real reason to do my auto-> manual swap.

The CV joints are the same. Depends on what you actually need.

axle is cracked in half. Need the entire thing.

Expect you could find one easily at a junk yard, or try on the parts post.

nah, it gives me an excuse to do the swap. :) 5 speed here i come.

I thought all of the N/A 5 speed CV axles were the same.
Although, I never tried to swap them around.

The later turbo axles are a replacement for the later manual axles.
