what should i do

i was going down to a car show with a bunch of friends and we were following to close. My friend got cut off and slammed his brakes so i hit mine and turned to avoid him only to send myself sideways down the highway. I countersteared and straighten out
but clipped my friends rear fender in the process. Im alive but my fender is dented pretty bad and my frame is bent. my bumper is a little messed up too. but it still runs nice and smooth.
My question is what should i do from here. The estimate on it is like 2000 which is too much. Im going to school next year for auto and buisiness so i will have a chance to fix it next year at school on my own for free. Should i wait and do it myself, part out with it, or sell it as is. I want a 951 and need to get like 4 to 5500 to make it happen with what i have saved. The car only has like 88000 miles and it is in great condition. What would you do.

Tishabet 04-18-2005 10:20 AM

the 89 head on your 2.7 car is worth a LOT of money to someone who wants to modify the displacement on a turbo. If the frame is bent, I would part the car.

Dave L 04-18-2005 10:32 AM

If the frame is bent forget it. Do you have any pictures?

Patrick-87-944 04-18-2005 10:54 AM

How bad is the frame bent? I fixed a slight bend on the front of my '87944na with a chain, pipe, attitude, and a pick-up.

944drift 04-18-2005 07:27 PM

i think the frame can be fixed. The car doesnt look very bad at all considering how fast i was going when i hit my friend. Its drivable right now and it goes fine. The space between the hood and fenders is a little bigger in some areas then others which makes me think the frames bent. Autobody guy says it can be fixed but for like 2 gs so if i fix it its going to be next year when i have the education and tools to do it right.

How much is the head worth anyway. The car is in good condition. Is it really worth it to part out with one of these. Ive never parted a car but i imagine it would be a lot of work. could i get about 5000 parting it maybe?

Ill have pics up tomorow.

Patrick-87-944 04-19-2005 05:28 PM

I am parting my first car - an '83 944 na. I have been cheaper on most stuff by 5-10 on the small stuff and about even with others that are parting the same stuff. I will end up making around 1500 more or less, I am in the 4th week of parting and since the car is in the garage my wife would like it over ASAP. So you will not make a lot of money quick, but if you are ready to go the distance have space, time (to bid the stuff or wait for a good offer) and the interior, exterior, and mechanical stuff on the car is in good shape you could make up to $2500+/-.

I have some before and after pics of my '87, you can fix alot with hard work.

Tell me what you think about the damage. It doesnt look too bad, the frame isnt bent i had it looked at. If you want to make an offer go ahead. 92000 miles, new alternator, ignition, intake, leather, 1989 2.7l so its a little faster. The fender wont cost much to fix depending on how you do it. brand new everything at a real good shop is 2000. used parts repainted at a less expensive place is about 1000. im jersey. If the offers good il drive to you. if no one wants it ill just fix it next year on my own and keep it. Then work a lot and buy a 951. :D

auh 04-19-2005 06:46 PM

How much would you realisitcly want for it?

944drift 04-19-2005 07:04 PM

about 5000. I know its high but i need that much to add to what i have to even begin to look at 951's. with repair it would be about 6500 in all for the buyer. Beleive me this car runs great and is clean so if you can repair cars or dont mind fixing it, make an offer. Like i said i dont need to get rid of this car, infact i wont have a ride without it, so selling it right now isnt very important unless i get a good offer.

Let me know what you guys think of the damage.

944drift 04-19-2005 07:07 PM

what did you have in mind. If its a realistic offer ill consider.

Tishabet 04-19-2005 08:01 PM

Are you really sure your frame is bent? I'm having a hard time imagining the collision which caused enough stress to bend the frame but only did that much damage to the body...... If I were you I would get it to a shop that can tell you of the frame is true or not, and go from there.

944drift 04-20-2005 07:08 AM

no the frame isnt bent. I had it checked out and they said its good. I just assumed it was after being hit.

all offers will be considered.

ronin 04-20-2005 09:52 AM

why not just simply go ahead and fix it? the $2000 quote is quite high. shop around for a better price. and it would still be a lot cheaper than getting a turbo. there is absolutely no reason for parting it out. the car appears to be in pretty good shape with no mechanical damage from the "incident"

verdict: just fix it

WaA420 04-20-2005 11:25 AM

What Ronin said. i would definately not part that car out. Parting cars is a big hastle and makes a huge mess and take along time to sell all the parts. Just fix and drive.

944drift 04-20-2005 12:29 PM

im not goin to part it out. Im puttin it up for sale right now. If it sells then it sells if not ill keep it and fix it. Next year ill be going to school for cars so ill be able to fix it there on my own in the schools facilities. It beats paying the 1 to 2 gs.

944drift 04-20-2005 12:33 PM

is 5000 too high.

Tishabet 04-20-2005 12:41 PM

an 89 NA in perfect condition with that mileage is worth around $7500....but that's in MINT condition, with full records going back to purchase, etc etc. A potential buyer will want to know a few specifics...start with:
Original clutch?
How long ago was the water pump replaced?
Ditto for belts, how long since last retension?
How old are the control arms?
Any otehr accident history?
Original paint?
ABS?

bryanthompson 04-20-2005 01:22 PM

has that car been drifted?

NKN84944 04-20-2005 02:02 PM

I dont see how that could possibly affect the drivability of the car. I would personally just keep driving it until you get a chance to fix it yourself at school next year, otherwise you will be taking a big hit selling it damaged. Just my 2 cents.

944drift 04-20-2005 02:23 PM

no other accidents, new control arms at 70000 miles. belts were done then too. i dont know about the clutch but i do know its real smooth. no grinding or trouble getting in to gear. original paint. no abs to my knowledge but that just makes it more fun. I never drifted it in an event but i did a little drifting in it in some parking lots. i didnt do clutch kicks or shift locks in it just feints and power overs. I use my friends is300 for drifting. the 944 is too expensive to fix so i didnt drift in it much. cmon people lets see some offers
