Rip

Well Tuesday evening my 944 met it's end, when the front end of a Honda met the rear of the 944.

My son was driving when it happened and I am greatful that he wasn't hurt. I really have to give it to Porsche for the structural integrity they design into their cars.

It's hard to loose a great car, like this, because I have such great memories with it. Like my road trip from Fort Collins CO, back home to Bremerton WA. My son and I have been running in autocrosses this year, and now it has come to this.

Rest In Peace 944 LTP

did it do any structural damage? bumpers are cheap and the shocks take most the impact. If it diddnt do any structural damage i bet that you could get parts for around $100 used.

It looks like just a flesh wound, she should be okay! Don't let the car go unless you really have to, it sounds like this car means a lot to you and your boy.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

From the outside it looks pretty minor, but is that a slope in the floor I see on the inside shot?

If there was serious damage further in than the rear sheet metal you would see the sides below the pillars buckled.

FIX IT!

If you don't want to fix it then I'll buy it.

If nothing structural is ruined, that's a really good excuse to find and install a Euro bumper.

Look closer

See tha that slope? Yeah that's a bent frame.

That the left Quarter, notice the new custom wide body flairs?

See that round dent? Yeah that's from the X-axle.

That cool dent was caused by the quarter moving frowards.

The door doesn't close anymore. Nope not going to rebuild it thanks for the encouragement.

Well if you can't make jokes about this stuff you sit and cry.

man, from the first pics it didn't look anywhere near that serious.

Can you buy it back from the insurance co. and part it out?

Now why didn't you post those pictures before?

Anyway look around for a good body that has a blown engine. Takes about a week of evenings to swap things around. Check Porsche garages for 944's that the owner doesn't want to fix. Don't pay more than $1,000.

That sucks.

Looks like there's loads of good parts there though. I'd take Hugh's advice and look for another that you could revive with the good parts you've got.

Go figure, I wonder how many 944's have ended this way?

I have a feeling I may have to settle on something that's not a 85.5 or newer in the form of a replacement. But who knows.

Keep the faith.

The aluminum suspension can be used on the early models. Have to use the drive shafts from the 85.5 as the early ones are too short. Still there is no difference in the suspension geometry.

Early 944's are lighter by a couple of hundred pounds.

Later 944 engines have a few more horses from the longer exhaust lift on the cam.

Later seats will fit in an early 944 too.

Keep the 85.5 and start looking around for a 944 with a broken timing belt or clutch that the owner just doesn't want to fix. For $500 and a week of evenings you will have a running 944.

Damn- I picked out that sloped trunk with my magic eyes. I just wish I could harness these powers for some kind of constructive use.

I agree with others- your engine/trans is good, find a $500 non-running 944 and go to town. Hell, if your insurance will pay, you could then buy it back and come out with a few bucks in your pocket.

I must agree with my most esteemed, and sometimes diabolical, colleagues, therefore the search is on; and so for has turned up an ’84 Non-Sun Roof Coupe (NSRC). Not as nice to work on or drive as the 85.5 and later cars, but I like NSRC 944's.
