New 944S

Last August, after only 5 months of ownership my 1986 944 was rear ended and totaled. I have just purchased a 1988 944S. Overall the car is in good shape with 132,000km with esentially 2 owners. My last car was from a mechanic who replaced the clutch, belts, waterpump, and front shocks. It was 100% no worries. This new car I intend to put in the same place.

The exterior is in very good shape considering its original paint, there are a few light scratches across the hood and some small darker spots which may be acid rain damage. The interior needs some attention with a worn through bolster on the drivers seat and the dash is showing a few cracks. The car runs very smooth and all accessories work, even the aircompressor for the spare is in the back. The car is quick, I always found my 8v a little slow and it never seemed to really "come allive" the S comes alive at higher RPM and just pulls and continues to pull. I like it!

To do list;

Starting problem (solenoid clicks but doesnt turn over)
replace cam chain tensioner (or pad) not sure yet
Tension belt, it was done at 100,000Km 4 years ago, I might replace it (not sure yet)

Winter to do;

have hole in boulster of driver seat repaired
put on cover lay
find some D90's or something else cool.
Paint the PD's gunmetal grey and mount some R compound tires

New - Grey
Old - Gold

Cool! Congrats ion the new purchase.

I'd just go with changing the entire tensioner assembly altogether. I know its considerably more expensive, but you'll have much better peace of mind, and you won't have to adress it again for another 90,000mi.

At 4 years, replace that T-belt regardless of mileage. With the 'S' you'll need to be even more paranoid about that since failure will cost so much more. Pad vs. entire chain tensioner assy. is a tougher call. Personally, I did the whole assy, but not the $125 "J-tube" oil pipeline.

Looking good!!

Do you remember what colour the whaletail car you were mentioning to me? Trying to have an idea to see if I have seen it before.
