1985.5 Sunroof retrofit

Anyone have any experience retro fitting an 1986-944 sunroof cable and motor assembly to an 85.5?

Everything fits and operates but I will have to manufacture a couple of braces.

The only problem I notice is it must be manually controlled, i.e. there doesn't appear to be an automatic cut-off when the sunroof reaches full open or closed. Possible issue with microswitch differences?

The sunroof never worked when I bought the car and I don't know if this is normal operations or not.

Any inputs are greatly appreciated.

Factory manuals have several pages on refitting the new sun roof drive assemblies to the old. You will need the entire unit -- motor, cable, gear boxes, arms, etc.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

You might also check the tech info center on the top tab, it has some info about how to replace the drive gears and explains a little about how they work with regards to the microswitchs if I remember correctly. Probably best to follow Hugh's advice first.
