Sounds like you ran the normal. I'm still a newbie, but here's some ideas.
Maybe the Clutch Fork is damaged or slipped out. When I did my first clutch I didn't properly install the clutch fork so that it was under the lip of the Throw out bearing ears. (not sure actual name).
If you remove the clutch slave and try push down on the fork through the Slave hole. (use finger) If it bottoms out (with the fork not engaging it will hit the Bell housing with a hollow sound (and about two inches travel) if it makes a more solid sound at about an 1/2 inch it's probably OK.
If it bottoms... might be a Clutch job to access.
You may also check the Clutch petal springs and adjustments. (http://www.clarks-garage.com/ search for "shop-manual/clutch-04.htm"

This is how my slave cylinder behaved when it first went out last year. The pedal would get stuck to the ground, but when I would pull it off the floor I would be able to get some more use out of it. When I did this though, I never regained a "full" pedal, the pressure would not kick in until about half way down. I don't have an explanation for why it behaved like this, but it did.

Oh yeah, and what everyone is saying about these cylinders going quickly its absolutely true, I replaced my master 2 times in the past yr and a half (actually I rebuilt it the second time). Good luck SmileWavy
