Rough idle and stalling in neutral

I have an 83' 944 manual transmission. My car idled rough in neutral from 900 to 200 back and forth until it would stall out and die. One day i tightened the throttle cable by twisting the metal hexagon edged piece connected to the rubber hose which incased the cable. Problem solved. But suddenly, 2 months later, im getting the same problem again. Intermitently its idleing rough in neutral. Any answers on how to fix this? I tried tightening the cable again but that didnt help.

Ive replaced the spark plugs, transaxle fluid, and oil filter recently.

Also, when i was in line at the drive through everything was fine...but i seemed to be idling around 1000 instead of 900 and i just tapped the dash with my finger, i heard a quiet noise like a fan turning on and the neutral rough idle started right up. Maybe thats just some weird coincidence though.

You may need a new ISV.... a friend of mine with a 85.5 had the same thing going on untill he replaced the ISV and most of the vac lines-good luck

'83 doesn';t have ISV. Thats a 85/2 thing. If you have throttle cable too tight, the TPS sensor can't go to "idle" mode. with engine off, you should hear a click if you move the throttle cam. if not, loosten untill you do.
