SCCA AutoX Rules Question

The Lincoln SCCA chapter seems pretty active, so I think I'm going to start AutoXing my 944 with them. There's an event on the 28th, but I don't know if I'll want to compete that soon. I think I'll go and watch this first time and try to get a better idea of what i'm in for

I downloaded the solo rules (http://www.scca.org/_filelibrary/File/2005SoloRules.pdf) and will sort through those pretty quick-like.

I don't want more HP, but I do want to lighten the car up as much as possible and get the suspension in as good of shape as possible, without moving up too many classes... To start out, I'm just going to get the car in good stock form, then figure out how much I want to upgrade.

I wasn't going to do this with my 83, but if I'm not going to sell it, I might as well use the heck out of it, right??

Edit: forgot to actually write what this post was meant for...

- How many of you guys AutoX, and what class do you run?
- How much weight can the car lose, and how much suspension work can I do before I end up in too high of a class?

I'm a big fan of the stock classes. As long as the car is capable of more than the driver, why spend money on the car?

Get lots of seat time in stock, then decide what direction you want to go.

Dantilla is right. Go to an autocross school if you can find one . Run as much as you can. When your times start to flatten out, then think about upgrades.
In any event, get a performance alignment (See Jim Pasha's article at 924.org under technical/suspension - it's for 944's too) and tires are a good bet.

For beginners, there's more time to be found between your ears than on the car, especially a 944.

Good luck. You'll love it.
