Idle speed valve (stabiliser)

Do any of you guys clean your idle speed valves on your 944's.
Is it easy to do/worth doing or is it better to replace it with new?My s2 seems to fluctuate revs now and then and i suspect it may be down to this.

I have yet to clean mine actually. on the 928 S4 that I have simply shoot a little WD40 into the vacuum line running into it to get the parts lubricated in there. I'm not sure if this idea works on the 944 too, but it has helped my 928 run smoother.

At the same time, the WD40 idea also troubleshoots a faulty ISV.

Well, i managed to partially clean the isv by disconnecting one of the hoses and spraying the carb cleaner down it - i couldn't fully remove the ISV as it really was inaccessible. It has made a difference in so much as the car no longer "surges" but i know seem to have a "metallic" noise when driving very slowly or at walking speed. You can also hear it on startup but it soon goes whilst the car warms up then it becomes audible when driving at walking space. At first i though timing chain or water pump but i really don't think it's either of those as it's literally only started immediately after cleaning the ISV and isn't there all the time.Has anyone else experienced these valves becoming noisy?
