oil pressure relief valve
So if this is the three piece oil pressure relief valve -
as it came out of my car today (with no o-rings anywhere to be seen..?!) where do the replacement inner (green) and outer rings live when I put this thing back together? Also - how does this thing work exactly? Thanks guys as always... Sorry for the crappy photo quality, not up to my usual game today.

Yep, this is the three piece oprv. Do not use the o-rings. They are for use on the one piece oprv (and keep in mind that there are two different kinds of one piece oprvs.)

The one washer I know is the aluminum sealing washer for the threaded nut end. I believe its pn N 043 815 3. However, not 100% sure of this number. It should be replaced if it looks scored or distorted, or simply if you find its allowing any leakage.
The other washer, I have no idea what that is, or for. I've never seen more than the sealing washer in any of my "3 pc" setups. As to HOW it works, I will leave that up to someone else who feels much more sure of the explanation of it. Just don't sandpaper the piston and its matching sleeve to death. IMO, it will increase the piston/bore clearance, and affect the overall operation of it. There are no O-rings, so those clearance tolerances will be much more critical to its proper operation, more so than on any "1pc" unit.

Sweet, thanks. This was a case of trying to order every conceivable seal before starting to work on the darn thing. Then I'm like, duh...
I'm presently beating the living crap out of myself and the car trying to get my new "aftermarket" (piece of bad ju-ju) mounts in, after grinding off the locating nubs, which are machined differently than the old mounts and I'm guessing probably the oem mounts in order to match the crossmember and get the bolt holes to line up. If I could do things over again.... Thanks for your help. The valve itself and the bore it moves in look to be in pretty good shape. This whole cooler assembly was leaking like a mutha though.
