AC fan speed 1-3 not work
Hi,
The AC fan doesn't run at Speed 1-3. The fan blow at Speed 4 (Max speed) only. Fuse is ok. My car -- 944S2 1989 EURO Any idea? Thanks~~~ Kay |
There is a relay that has gone bad, but you will also need to replace the fan motor at the same time. The motor is the reason that the relay went bad.
|
mine does this sometimes...
try pushing slightly on the AC knob with the position on 1-3... if the fans come on, time to take the switch apart...... |
Isn't there a resistor pack that controls the less than full speed? Check that before you trash the motor. The fact that the fuse is OK tells me the motor probably is as well.
|
I have the exact same problem, be interested to see how this one turns out.

Don't replace anything yet--You probably only need to sand the contacts on the resisitor/blower with sandpaper. Raise the hood, and carefullyu lift up the thin black piece of cowl plastic to expose the area, sand lightly should fix it.
I can't remember the exact location, it has been a looong time, this is more of a warning so you don't trash good parts. Try a search of this forum, as this is where I found the procedure that fixed mine. Took about 15 minutes and zero dollars. |
mine did the exact same thing and my problem was in the switch - dont know about u guys though... good luck!

above the fan motor under the plastic cover.
it's about four inches long held down by two screws. try soaking in white vinegar and then rinse off. |
By the way .. when you turn off you AC, always you hit off the AC compresor button also . ?
In my short experience always with Jap cars .. if you shut off the AC fan the compresor come off also .. but it's not occurs in my 944 .. is normal . ? |
Try the *full boost* defroster switch a couple of times-- this disables or bypasses the regular fan switch. Sometimes a spiders web will get in there and screw things up.
Happend to me Jeff |
Hi,
Thanks for all guys~~~ I will try sand the contact back.... then check the switch. Just start from the simple. How to check relay?? Will give you updates tomorrow. Thanks Kay |
