Q how to keep headlights popped up?
With Winter coming I think I may want to keep the lights popped open with the car off in icy/showy weather to avoid them icing over and causing a problem opening. Is there an easy way to do this?
Thanks Graham |

You can open them and pull the headlight motor fuse. The owner's manual or Haynes manual would tell you which fuse, I'm not sure which.
I kept them down while using the car last winter, if you just hit the ice/snow with the ice scraper (like strike, not scrape), it breaks it up enough to open. The system is surprisingly good, it doesnt get stuck or broken too much. |

put them up... turn the car off... then turn off the switch completely.... the parking / marker lights will go out, and your lights will stay up.

You have two options, either roll them up manually via the headlight motor, you need to pull off the rubber boot on top. Either that or as yellowline suggested which is much easier, turn the headlights on and pull the fuse for the headlight motor.
Think of the aerodynamic drag and decreased fuel efficeny you will get! Are you sure you want to do that!? ![]() But i have had pretty good luck with them never freezing over however in the two winters i have expierenced.

why not do what i suggested? u dont have to muck around with fuses, and if u do actually want to put them down it's just the flick of a switch...

On my car, if I turn the car off, then the lights off, the headlights go down..... That's probably why nobody supported it.
Best bet is to put them up and pull the fuse. However, even up here in Calgary, I've never had a problem with them icing shut.

I've had a few cars with retracting headlights and I've never once had them get stuck down.
I did have them get stuck up once on my old Accord, but that was because I was driving home practically through a blizzard and snow had filled the bucket that the lights retracted into. The mechanism actually hadn't bound up, there was just no room for the lights to go down!

Every time the weather looks bad, I pop them up and pull the relay off the headlight motor.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I think I will just wing it based on what most of you have recommended and just leave them alone. If I have a chance I will scope out the relay/fuse this weekend.
Thanks Graham
