Cigarette Lighter not working

My Cigarette Lighter in the 87 924S quit working and cannot figure out why
all fuses seem o.k. and everything else works so does that mean the actual lighter assy needs replacing??
It has never been used for cigarettes and looks brand new inside and yes it has worked before I used it last winter for a heated seat cover and wanted to use it this winter again.
Also just remembered that if I ever have a flat that I need it to pump the spare tire up!!

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Marcel

Your car is telling you something -- get a chest x-ray.

I'd guess the wire came lose off of the unit, being that it wasn't used for cigs.

SoCal Driver 12-14-2005 09:18 PM

OK. I'll get the x-ray.

SoCal, please do. We don't want to lose another one of the '44 gurus. Also, come out to the next gathering o' '44s, have a couple beers, and put faces with screen names/avatars.
Marcel, You'll need to pull the socket to test if it's the wire, or the socket itself, or some where else in the wiring. But, I'd start at the socket end with a test light.

Was thinking of a head x-ray and not a chest as I have never smoked. But I did grow up in a smoking household.

Ahhhh...

SoCal Driver 12-15-2005 11:29 AM

Easy for you to say!

Actually, that was me trying to breathe after growing up with a father who smoked four packs a day, and a mother smoking two. I feel your shortness of breath...

Mother made it to 62. Then got the hole in the neck when they took all of her vocal cords and stuff out. We swear she still would smoke for the next year and a half it took her to die.

I have back ground asthma. Comes on with heavy colds and such. A real pain.

Back on subject: What was being plugged into the socket? I know that one of the cell phone chargers I have just will not stay in. The other does. Could have fried the socket.

Marcelh 12-16-2005 12:15 PM

I plugged a set heater into socket last winter and it worked fine.
This year I tried again but does not work.
How do you tell if socket is fried? I would think that fuse would
blow before it would fry a socket?
By the way the socket looks o.k. by looking at it, clean and shiny.

After the Xray and normal smacking:

Check Fuse #7: Also controls Radio, Clock, and Inside lights:

After that, check that you are getting voltage to the socket.
I think there are two slip on spade type connector behind the console that also might of come off.

Bad connectors usually have brown marks on the nice clean shine where Mrs. Electricity was up to mischief.

So does anyone know how to remove the lighter assy to inspect the wires?
Does the whole center console panel need to be removed?
Thanks,
Marcel

is it possible that your seat warmers are broken and not your lighter socket?

Marcelh 12-17-2005 07:51 PM

No the lighter does not work either!
