87 944s AFM

Recently I've been diagnosed with a faulty and/or knackered Air flow meter on my 87 944S. And have just seen an AFM on ebay going very cheap. Trouble is it's from a 91 Turbo. I think I read that there's a differance between pre 1985.5 and after on the AFM's. What i'm asking is is the 91 turbo afm compatible with my 87 S?

I've been quoted about £300 pounds for a reconditioned AFM and am looking at every alternative before I spend that much lol.

Cheers guys.

they're different.

go here - http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=POR&model=944M&section=fulint&page=2&bookmark=6&part_number=944-606-124-X-M263

only $162.50 with free shipping

that page also shows you the part number for the turbo. it's the entry directly above the one highlighted.

How was your AFS tested? You can open these up and relocate the contacts (wipers) on the carbon coated ceramic. See www.frwilk.com .

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

LOL
Wilk is FINALLY adding the "babe chip" to his inventory!!! I hear once installed, it immediately provides a digitally produced, yet fully tangible, sexy redhead in a short white tube top to wash your car.....

I have one off of my parts car taking up shelf space; if you want it make a reasonable offer +ship. Unknown condition though, I bought the car with the timing belt popped. If there are electrical tests, I do have a multimeter to check it with.

Basicaly the car was running shoddy after the previous owner had fitted a new throttle cable incorrectly. So I took it to a performance car specialsit who re-set everything. And although the car ran better it still wasnt perfect. So I let him have it for a week as its worse when cold. He set it to the best he could (which is a vast improvement) but told me the afm wasn't working correctly. (the plasctic cover has had its seal broken when i was checking the car out at home after first getting it)

The symptoms of the car is, when first fired up, the car will not rev above 3000 rpm without spluttering like hell, when backing off throttle the revs will drop to 500, then sit at 800-1000. And the car is undriveable until it's warmed up for 2-3 minutes.

Whilst driving, car acts fine, unless say you're in heavy traffic crawling along at 15mph, using little revs. If you relase the trottle and engage the clutch, the revs drop again as if the engine is going to stall, then finds itself again at 800-1000.

Sorry about the lengthy post. And as this is my first, I really haven't a clue on my own lol. Its way different to dual SU HS4 carbs!

Patrat, what would you be willing to accept for the afm? If its in good working order. I'm in the uk so obviously there'll be shipping on it.

Is there any major differances between a euro and us spec afm? Example different DME signals or anything. Again sorry for the n00bish-ness of the posts.

Hey, when you have the AFM off, could you possibly do me a quick favor and measure the two dimensions of it's interior box? I wat to get a quick figure on airflow area.

I might be willing to snag that dead AFM from you, also ;-)

Yeah I'll take some dimensions.

Am pretty busy with work (using the 944 every day) so I don't know when I'll get around to whipping it off, but I'll post em up for you.
