vin ddecoding for a ROW car

Hi, im having trouble decoding a vin for a 85.5 944
thats supposed to be a euro spec car.
the vin is wpozzz94zfn404120 carfax, nor any other
vin decode or car history sites are reconizing this vin

anyone else with this problem?

where should i go?

hey let me know how this works out, i have an 85.5 row also and would like to know the answer.
I hear 5th gear is taller, a little more hp(higher compression, use high octane), temp ctrls are in celsius and the speedo cluster is different, any other differences?
Also the taillight config is different.

i not sure of all the differences ether, i just purchaced the car today and
wont see it till this weekend. although i did have a 931 that i belive was also a row car. but not sure it did have the (zzz) in the vin.

as far as vin decoding and differences i still have know idea as where to go.

Maybe we should create a website to be a regestry and information data base. what do you think?

Thanks. well for starters you can tell me you name, so i dont have to
refer to you as "earlr85944". unless thats what you want?

i think the next thing we need to do is gather facts about ROW cars
and form a spotters guide.

we also need to get in touch with someone who has allready created
this type of Regestry and decoder site to explain how to set up
the automation of the site. but as far as automation of the regestry
. well im not sure that we need this, i think we could just have a email
account set up just for regestering people . they email their info
and we manualy add them to the site.

as far as the site goes i think it would be best to use a free web server
like geosites or angelfire to began the site and upgrade to a formal
.com once we have gained recongition as, a/the offical ROW regestry

ill post a tread on this forum about what were doing a see how much interest we can get in this.

Chassis Serial Numbers : All 944 chassis numbers consist of two groups of code letters followed by the vehicle serial No.

WPO ZZZ = Europe RoW
WPO AAO = USA/Canada
94 = first two digits of model No. - Standard 944
95 = first two digits of model No. - 951 (944 Turbo)
Z = Europe RoW
O = USA/Canada
D= model year (1983)
E=1984 up to 1990 L (later ZL) 1991 ZM, 1992 ZN
N = Neckarsulm (build plant)
4 = last digit of model No. (944)
1 = last digit of model No. (951)

Well I got my car on the road 2 weeks ago and got insurance thru nationwide. I got a call today from them saying the VIN is invalid. The DMV did not question the VIN and did give me a title.
Any thing special to insure a ROW 944?

No, just tell the insurance company that is the correct VIN and that DMV had no problem issuing a title. My insurance company also questioned it.
