OPR valve
I just finished reading a post and found ut that there is a updated oil pressure relief valve. My 924S is currently using the 3 peace system. Where can I find that updated version? Also is there anything else thats been updated??

There is a six page factory tech bulletin #3 that discusses the change from the three piece to the one piece. Also has details on the oil cooler seals and housing. If you have a dealer close by get a copy from them.
For the 1987 924S it says: Up to engine # 43 H 01919-std trans # 43 H 60384-auto trans OPRV part # 944 107 035 11 Use alignment tool #9215 From engine # 43 H 01920-std trans # 45 H 60385-auto trans OPRV part # 944 107 034 01 (This is a tad longer than the first one.) Use alignment tool # 9262/1

I have an early 85 N/A 944 and it doesn't look like either of these. It doesn't have an o-ring near the top of the piston but there is 1/16 in. wide indentation half way down the piston that goes all the way around the circumference of the piston. Did I lose the o-ring when I took out the OPV? Does an o-ring go that indentation?

You have the early oil pressure control valve (pistion and spring). There is no o-ring. The ones pictured are found in the 85.5 engines and later. However you can put the first single piece design into an early block.
You will have the aluminum washer/seal on the treaded plug.

When would I consider replacing this valve? Would it only be if my oil pressure was low? I am getting ready to replace the oil cooler seals in my 87 after reading that those are known weak points on an 87...should I consider replacing the OPRV then or leave what I have alone and just replace the seals?
Thanks...

So you are saying that my new gasket set has aluminum washer and seal that I install on the OPV?

If the gasket set you are refering to is for resealing the oil cooler. It should also have the o-rings.
The reason the single piece replaced the piston and spring is that the piston sometimes binds in the aluminum bore and causes oil pressure problems.

Clark's garage.com GO THERE!
TSB shows what/why/ and where to go, regarding the replacement oil cooler gasket sets. Should be in the later FSM. Replace that OPRV.........if your so inclined. Please, send me your original. I'm sure, there is NOTHING wrong with it. Waste of money to replace it with an "updated one". UNLESS, you damage it cleaning it, or it is badly scored. Then, you better be looking at the bore of the block sleeve for it also. I have a replacement 1 pc for my early cars. I haven't needed to put it in yet. Don't panic. The early ones work just FINE if taken care of properly. Alignment MUST be done properly on the OPRV ( it AIN'T a big deal), and so must the oil cooler gasket set be installed properly. DO the research, or you won't get a favorable result. Go into it unprepared, BE prepared to spend lots of time and money. Good luck!
