Odometer not working after wheel swap
Hi all,
Last weekend I swapped my 15" Phone dials on my 86n/a for nice 16" ones from a 86 Turbo. Looks muuuuuuuch better. However, now my odometer stopped working. I changed the odometer gear a couple of weeks ago and it was working perfect until the wheel swap. Is there a sensor at the hubs or something? Anybody any ideas??? Thanks in advance!!! |
On an early 944 I would look at there the cable comes through the grease cap on the left front wheel. On the later cars it's driven off of the transmission with an electrical sender.
Me thinks it's just coincidence. Unless your left rear wheel has permantly levitated off the road and is not turing. |
did you let the jack down?????????????????????

Grrrr....I don't want to open up my dash again...Wheeeeee!!!!!!

OK, this is driving me insane...
I took the whole cluster out again (I get REALLY good at it), measured everything with a Volt meter, inspected the gears (inluding the new one from Rennbay) and couldn't find anything... The only thing I saw was a small pinch in one of the three wires, going from the print plate to the odometer motor. I wiggled those while measuring with a Volt meter and everuthing seemed ok. So I cleaned the contacts, put everything back together and it worked! However, this morning after approx 150 miles since repair it stopped again...grrrrrrrrrrr  I have no clue what to do. My speedo and tach work perfect. It's somewhere in the printplate or the motor of the odometer... Any clues? |
86 is the later style speedo guys

It may just be the odometer motor. You can pick up used clusters on ebay for almost nothing. Buy one and swap the motor or the complete cluster. Save yourself the frustration. Actually pulling those isn't that hard once you get used to it, is it? :)

I totally hear ya.... ;)
Yeah, I was thinking buying a used cluster and swap some stuff... Should I install these tacho rings? One side of me says it looks pretty good...My other side says keep it all original...Tough decision. What do you guys think? |
