Used Motors

I was thinking about doing routine maintenance on my motor this spring and I was looking at quite a bit to do. So now that I found out I don’t need to pass smog for several more years I'm thinking I might build a new motor and drop that in. I want to test the waters and see what people have lying around. I would prefer a complete motor in any condition, but I will consider just a block or so. I have no real plans as to what I am going to do. A 3L would kick ass as well as a 968 motor, but any motor could be fun. I would be doing a complete rebuild so trashed heads, or cranks are ok as long as not everything is trashed. I want to know what people have in the corner of their shop under piles of just that they just want to get rid of. Also any suggestions on places to source parts or what I should do. As long as it doesn’t include selling the car any suggestions are welcome!

You might try calling these places but 3L is a much more expensive engine.....

Ollies I190 Used Auto Parts USA-MA(Phillipston) 1-800-559-5865

Austin Veedub, Inc. USA-TX(Austin) 1-800-282-3119

Silver Star Recycling USA-CA(Rancho-Cordova)1-800-783-4911

Elite Auto Parts Company USA-CA(Sun-Valley)1-818-767-0445

Those were rebuilding engines as I'm assuming you want an inexpensive engine. The complete ready to bolt in engines were 2500 dollars. If you are looking for something inexpensive, then the 2.5L go for a lot less although the 88 seems to be higher than some previous years. Here are a few of those:

Maroney's Foreign Car and Parts USA-PA(Smithton) 1-800-245-7278

Ollies I190 Used Auto Parts USA-MA(Phillipston) 1-800-559-5865

America II Inc. USA-NJ(Mays-Landing) 1-866-883-4799

These engines were from 88's only so they should slide right into your car without any modifications. Some were parts engines and others were running and complete. It's a place to start...if you need more let me know.

I also found one on ebay a short time back that sold for 50 dollars, so watch there too if you not in a hurry.

Also remember these are from dismantlers, so prices are negotiable.

Good Luck

I've had nothing but great luck with www.partsheaven in CA. Razorback1980 was right about price though - wait until you get the complete quote on price, then sigh in disappointment over the phone. Wait 4-5 seconds in silence. Then say: "Wow........that's a bit much. What can we do to work on that price?"

9 times out of 10 they'll knock some dough off. Especially on a full engine.
