What gears do I have?
I have two transmissions from '84 944's. One transmission has the code QM13044. This means it should have a 3.88 R&P and .7297 5th gear. I verified this by turning the input shaft until the axle side rotated 10 times (in 5th gear). It took 28 revolutions, which comes out very close to the expected ratio (2.83). The second transmission has the code QM04054. It should have the same gears, but when I verified this I got 30 1/4 revolutions to 10 axle revolutions. This is still short of the 3.22 gear ratio that I would expect to see if the lower 5th gear (.8286) had been installed. My gear ratio info comes from Clark's Garage. Any ideas on what I have? I want the lower 5th gear for my ITS race car.

I have no idea what you have, but didn't you prove your point of which was the lowest geared transmission?

Well, I do know which one is geared lowest, but ITS specifies the gear ratios in each gear for the 944, but not the R&P. I've been running the lower geared transmission, but the car still could use a lower final drive.
