Tranny question

I was looking around trying to find information about doing a tranny swap and can't find exactly what I am looking for. If i swap a LSD 944s tranny into my 85 N/A how would that effect how hard my engine is working. I read that it has the same first 4 gears as a turbo, shorter, and a taller 5th that equals the N/As. I just want to be sure before buying. I don't really want my highway mileage to go way down. Also it'll be mainly for autoX that I am doing this.

I did this swap a few months ago. The 5th gear is actually shorter than the 5th gear you currently have. The first four gears are just a little taller. Here are the ratios, with your 944 N/A transaxel on the left and the 944S transaxel on the right. Note that the 5th gear you currently have is .7297 and not .8286! I did not realize this until after I dropped the transaxel in the car and took it for a spin I have to say I want my old 5th gear back... but I can actually accelerate nicely in 5th now. I am sure this transaxel would be nicer on the track once I get get everything done with her, but it is running much higher rpms on the freeway now (3500 instead of 3100 at 80mph with my speedo being a little fast).

Hmm. I might just take the LS off the S tranny and put it on mine.
