86 n/a wont idle

ok as the title says it just started to do this. i started the car left the parking lot all was good, drove it for about 15miles. pulled over and hosed off the outside at the carwash. got in started right up idled without a problem and i pulled out to a parking space to dry the car off. got back in started up no problems and drive off.

a few minutes later while sitting traffic the car begins to idle very irratically! i was able to drive it 50yards and park it. i tried to give it some gas and nothing happened, i shut it down and waited a few minutes. tried to start it again and it cranks over as normal and fires but idles very irratically again and again i can floor the gas pedal and it does nothing to the rpms.

so i open the hood to see if i got something wet from the wash but i found nothing in the enginge compartment that was wet at all. i checked all the fuses and they are all fine.

im not sure what to look at next. i thought that the fuelpump was in the tank on this car and there is an access panel in the trunk under the carpet to what looks like a fuel pump cap but the book says its on the outside of the car.... hell if i know.

any thoughts would be nice and much appreciated!

Well adam, do you know how old your plug wires are? I had a similar issue on my old 924S. It was quite sporatic, but did seem to happen when there was more moisture in the air, of course here in Indiana is almost every other day. As for the location of the fuel pump, you will find it located on the underside of the car on the passenger rear end. It is about the size of a pop can. When mine was at its worst, it only fired on cyl#4. It was amazing it still ran at all! Good luck

I'd say about the same thing. You may want to look under the hood at night (or in dark garage) if it continues to do this tomorrow after it dries out. Probably have sparks flying everywhere under there. Just one guess.
