the inside click
My steering wheel makes a single 'click' sound when turning- it sounds like a plastic on plastic click- not anything from the front suspension. The source is IN the steering wheel itself- or at least in the mount / connections for the steering wheel.
I can make it click repeatedly by moving the steering wheel back and forth. It clicks once for each direction of turn- just past center. Alignment clip? Bushings? non-air bag, 1985.5 Someone suggested that ALL 944's do this but the sound is so subtle that most drivers never hear it. I doubt that as my 'click' is hard to miss and quite audible. |

my '83 had a copper contact in the steering column that would make a clicking noise.

Guys, I know I'm the new owner, and probably don't know much, but could this sound be from the little doohickie that cancels your turn signal once you begin to straighten the wheels after completing a turn?

Could be all of the above, you wont know untill you remove the steering wheel. Its very easy to remove. Pop off the horn pad and remove the nut.

I'm thinking maybe the doohickey that locks the steering wheel when there isn't a key in the ignition?
