Holy ****! Fire

Well this afternoon I had a minor elcetrical fire in my car. The headlights had not been going up or down so I decided to test and see if they were getting power. I pulled the relay and the plug. The relay was kinda warm but it was when I pulled the other one before it out too. Anyways, I disconnected that plug and tested to see if there was any curent flowing through it. Nope. So I check and sure enough somehow between the last time I checked and now the fuse has blown. I replace that. I test again and still no power at the plug. I say oh well screw it. I'll mess with it some other time. I hook everything back up. I go and open the drivers door and there's smoke coming in the little vent there. I say holy **** and run up front and sure enough there's smoke coming from the plug and relay. I pull those. I go back and there's still smoke coming from that vent. I grab some wrenches and pull the battery. It stops. You can see on the cover over the wire lomb, at the relay, where the wire inside melted and I pulled the switch at the dash and a few of the wires are melted behind it. So therefor I have no headlights. ****ty but I'll just have to not drive it at night.

I go to start it to pull it into the garage so I can get ready to take the dash out and hopefuly start replacing stuff from my '82 924 parts car. It turns but doesn't ever actualy start. It acts like it's not getting fuel or something.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

I need to at least be able to get this thing running. I'm buying my first house and it's got a 3 car garage. I just need to get it over there so I can work on it more.

I'd say start by replacing the melted pieces of wire. The only fires in cars should be kept inside the engine... and mabye a little out the exhaust

Yeah. Replacing all that wire is going to take a while. I think I might call the insurance this week and talk to them about it having a small fire and see if i can claim it on my insurance. Then depending on what happens I'll have a fixed car or another 944. I might buy this one back to turn into a track car anyways. :-)

Insurance+Fire=2 cars = better than 1 car

Best thing is to have it put on a flatbed and taken to the new house. You don't want to be driving a car with melted wiring....fire might be bigger next time. If you want your car to be black on the outside, it's better to use paint! Good luck...I hate these kinds of problems. If you need help finding a wiring harness, let me know and I'll see what I can find for you.

I was going to build a nice turbo motor but I guess I'll spend that money now to get it running. I wanted to beat my friends Viper but by the time me as a poor college student get's the damn thing running he'll have his headwork and who knows what done.

I wanted to do a 3 liter turbo. Now I am going to be buying parts insted.

Anyone have any idea why it doesn't start or what I can test to see why? Like I said, it turns and turns but doesn't run.

go to clarks garage... link in the menu second from the top... great step by step instructions can be found in that list to help diagnose a no-start issue...

good luck!

The only chance you have of beating a viper is to put it on an auto-x track. These are not drag cars, they are road cars. May want to hit those school books and learn some engineering. Think road course..he'll beat you every time in acceleration even with a turbo.

Well, if figured give us both about the same HP I'd wan cause I am lighter. I'll tell you what though, that guided missile is the fast I have ever made it down a 1/4 mile except for my motorcycle.

Yes, they are fast....and yours can corner....to beat him, know the characteristics of your car and what it's good at and what his isn't. Quarter mile dragsters make an Indy car look like matchbox toys when it comes to speed. If you took an indy car and gave him a running start of 200 mph at the start of a quarter mile track, the dragster would catch him in less than three seconds and would cross the quarter mile well ahead of an Indy car. But...put that dragster on a circle track and ask him to turn corners and go 500 miles, he is sunk. Consuming over 72 gallons of fuel per mile (yep, I said 72 gallons per mile), the dragster couldn't make it around the track once...and even if it could carry that much fuel, his engine would melt in about a half mile..in fact they often do in a quarter mile. The key to winning any race is knowing what you are good at and what the other guy isn't. Knowledge is the key to winning not necessarily horsepower. The dragster has 8500 horsepower, but he isn't going to win at Indy. The 944 is never going to win on a quarter mile track...not with a 944 engine anyway. But put them on an auto-X track...well just make sure you wave to the other cars as you pass them....it's important to always be friendly!

I know I can out corner him. I just was just hoping to build something that could hang in a straight too.

Haha. Yeah. Of course if I had 39k to spend on my 944 like he did for the Vipe my 944 more like 944s and 968 would be awesome. :-)

Sounds like you are laughing all the way to the bank..good for you. If you want to beat him...compare car payments and insurance costs! Besides yours looks better and is more fun to drive. If I'm not mistaken, you could also take him to the desert and compare inside car temperatures...wasn't Vipers the ones that don't have a/c? That would have to suck where I live....a little easier to take in Missouri but still a major drawback.
