Flashing oil and e-brake lights

I've got a 924S with 68K.

I was driving around and noticed the oil warning light in the instrument panel flashing a little bit. Not much and it seemed to come in at any rpm. The oil pressure gauge was at the max and only dipped a little when idling. The car was running great and i got to where i needed to go.

So I checked my oil and it was a little low, but fine. I drove it again and the e-brake light started to come on at the same time as the oil light. The speedo has also been wavering lately.

Does anyone know if these things have a specific electrical connection that might be causing this? Just a theory here. I'm no mechanic.

Thanks to anyone who has an idea.

- Jim

This is probably normal. Idle it should show 2-3, at throttle it will show 4-5.

Did it just start? Where at in the range does it waver? If it bounces in between 0-25 mph when going that slow, its pretty much normal. I think everyone's cars with the old style speedo do it.

As far as lights flashing, it would be a bad connection on hte back of the lighting. If they were flashing together, its not a preoblem with the oil being low. its electrical. These cars are notorious for the way the connectors are build on gauges and switches. One example is the E-brake switch. It's a little poppet switch located directly under the ebrake on the frame. all it is is a metal pole with a spring that pushes it up when the e-brake is raised so that the bottle part of it touches the frame it's bolted to, causing it to close a circuit with the ground. Its not even a real 'switch' just a way to touch a wire to some metal. The door light switch is like this too if you have ever disassembled it.

If it bothers you, take out the dash and check the wiring... Theres guides on how to remove the dash components on Clark's garage I belive, but I'm not sure. They are around though. If not on Clark's someone will post where it is.

I see 3 different things here.
Your speedo is mechanically driven off the front left hub. Nothing electrical there. Check the cable from the wheel bearing cap (make sure it's locked into the square hole in the cap) toi the back of the speedo, no binding, rubbing.
Most, if not all of the 87-88 924S's have an oil level sender in the oil pan. Low oil is the quickest way to kill the 944 engines. Keep that stuff topped off. When racing, I run it 1/8 inch over full and check it before every single track session.
The parking brake light might just be that switch talked about already.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I think I'll start by changing my oil. Then if the lights are still flashing I know for sure it's electrical. I've gotta believe that's the case.

I was just worried and imagining that maybe the e-brake light was a secondary warning for the oil light.

As long as my engine doesn't blow, all the lights can flash like a fire truck.
