Broken armrest
The armrest on my door has pretty much come away from the door so I have to pull the window sill to close the door. I have tried replacing the screws, but it seems like it may be stripped.
To fix this, do I need to replace the entire door panel, or does that armrest attach another way? |

There is a metal bar that hooks into the doors inner metal panel at the top. I've seen the stud that secures it to the arm rest pull out. I've also used some wood/metal screws through the back of the door panel and into the arm rest to secure from flopping about when taking out the three large screws in the bottom of the arm rest. You have to remove the map pocket to get to them as they are at an angle.
What year car???

Item #2 the map pocket has to come off (three screws across the bottom) to get to the arm rest screws item #8.
The bent hook is item #34. Note that the arm rest screws item #8 go through the doors inner metal panels using the floating sheetmetal "nuts" item #10.

ah ha! It looks like I need some new #10 nuts is all. That seems to be a lot better than replacing the entire door panel, that's for sure.
It is an 86 944N/A. |

Most of the time the item 8's fall into the map pocket. Or between the door gutter (monkey)rail and the seat. Get a magnet and search.

You wouldn't happen to know the part numbers for parts #8, 9 and 10 do you?

Try:
![]() Note that there is a generic description below the part name in the right column. Should be able to find the hardware at a decent metric supplier. Also consider VW, Audi and MB dealers.
