Well, as most of you know, the buyer of my former 944 picked up the car today, and the car broke down for him on the way home (after running perfectly for me for the entire summer).
Well, maybe "broke down" is a little harsh. The buyer lives about 30-40 mins away; about 30 mins into the trip, the engine seemed to "lose power," started "bucking". He pulled over, and shut the car off. After letting the car sit for 10 mins or so, he started it again and he was able to drive the rest of the way home without incident. I am thinking some kind of fuel delivery problem. O2 sensor?

BTW, I could be a jerk and say "hey, the warranty ends at the driveway, buddy," but I'm not a jerk, and told the buyer I would try to help him fix whatever is wrong.

Offering him to help fix it is the best bet. Things that come to mind about the problem.. fuel filter, dirty injectors, sticky air flow meter.
The bucking sounds as it it was choking out, thats why I think its could be the fuel systems especially if it was fine 10 mins later. Maybe SoCal would have better ideas.

When did it buck......
at idle........wot .........or just cruising. There could be a tear/loose j-boot. Whats the last thing YOU touched.

The usual. Has to do it continuously for a diagnosis.
Also the driver has to "know" the car. More experience driving it.

Recent rain? Did he drive through puddles? (Fishing here...) Maybe TPS, maybe vac leak. Did the bucking clear up at WOT? Was idle smooth?
Probably just gremlins.

His problem now. I'd suggest to him that he check all the vacuum lines (a leak will definitely cause bucking and surging) and be polite about it, but if he's gonna' own a 944 he better learn to diagnose and fix things on his own. No time like the present.

Try another DME relay.....sometimes they start to act up, doing things like you describe, just before they fail completely. Any time any 944 owner is having some kind of fuel delivery related problem, the first thing on the list to check is the DME relay.
