Spark Plug wires

Just received new plug wires (Magnecor) to replace on my 1989
944S2.
The old wires had a ground from each. The new ones do not.
Are the grounds to reduce radio interference or are they needed for other reasons? The car is a track only car so I do not care about the radio.

Normal spark plug wires aren't supposed to have a ground. Your old ones were probably the Nology wires with the inline capacitor - they have a ground lead which is indeed to reduce EMI since the capacitor wires are more prone to generate noise.

On a second note, the Magnecor wires are crap. I had a set, and the connectors deteriorated and fell apart in less than two years. Send them back and get a set of OEM wires, or at least some wires with the OEM Beru connectors - I believe Paragon Products has some "high performance" wires that use the proper connectors.

The Magnecor wires are not crap, the rubber boots are crap. Mine are falling apart after about a year. Glad I got 'em cheap. I thought I did my research well enough. I HATE buying things twice !!

Well, yes the rubber boots are crap. When I said the wires are crap I meant the whole assembly
