86 1/2 16v 944s??????? IS THIS FOR REAL?

Just curious... upon going to the corner store to get some "munchies" i noticed a White 944s(thats what the badge says) refueling. I asked the guy who owned it what year it was... and he said 86. i replied with ... i have an 87s and its the first year... he says that they started it in 86 1/2 ... i said 16v and he said yes and briskly walked off and said ... cool man, ok nice chat... jumped in it and drove away.

For real?

or did i just get gotten.

Lemme Know

The 944S came out in early 86, but they still called it a model year '87

Technically he was right but officially he was wrong. They're right - most cars made after Sept come out as next years' model. That being said, the guy should have said it was an '87.
