An update
Well I think I have come across a name for the car, Pearl...........as in poor, pityfull, pearl. (you youngins won't get it)
I have also finished re-building the head and it is ready to go back on the car. The last person in here was a moron, he used silicone everywhere, even in the places where anarobic sealant is required..............I hate stupid people, and I detest going behind them............ She is coming into the garage tomorrow evening and the reassemble will commence. I'm shooting for smoke Friday night. I justy hope Lanna doesn't mind giving up the garage for a couple of days. I would love to "sick-out" tomorrow and just get it finished. Oh well, evening work will have to do. Special thanks to WaA420 for the parts help, top notch guy! |
Hey Rick,
Just in case you buy a car when I'm done with it, I've never heard of the need for anarobic (vs aerobic?!). Don't worry, I won't use silicone but when would I need one versus the other. Far more importantly, good luck with the Pearl v Lanna cat fight!!! |
Anarobic sealant is that thin red sealant that is used beteween machined surfaces, that have tight tolerances. Example, the "cam caps" on the end of the head need to be sealed so they don't leak. Silicone is thick and will effect the torque values. The anarobic sealant is very thin and will squish out, thus not effecting the torque of the cap. It forms a membrain type of seal, good stuff. At $20 for a 4oz. tube it had better be good stuff.
I think the cat fight should be ok, Lanna is going to stay with a friends truck. 1948 5 window, completly restored, very nice. |
Man you would hate working after me, I use silicone on a wide array of things. I find silicone easier to remove and normally places where I use it torque isn't all that critical.

She's in the garage and it is going well. I have all the front engine seals in, the lower half of the t-belt done, all the pulleys changed, balance belt installed. Tomorrow the head goes back down. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168481772.jpg
I just couldn't resist posting a pic of the surgury. This is pre-anything on the bottom side. |
how many "HORSE POWERS IN WHEELS" do the glasses add to the engine?
