Rim problem

Just started to look around for a new set of rims. I haven't decided on 16" or 17" but I came across the dreaded Porsche problem you know double the price because it's a Porsche.
So what I would like to know is anyone can tell me what other makes have the same stud pattern as the 944. That way I can get around the problem by telling them its for a ----- instead of a 944, it worked for the rear wheel bearing kit VW super bug $30 cheaper per side, same shop different sales person.

Sorry. Nobody but Porsche uses the 5 x 130 bolt pattern.

Other Porsche wheels will fit, and there are lots of options. Check the used parts here at Pelican. Lots of wheel swapping goes on.

Your 1983 takes early offset wheels. Any late offset wheels will fit with 1" or 1.25" spacers if you want to go to a later style wheel.

The offset changed with the introduction of anti-lock brakes. 1987 for 944s, and 1990 for 911s. 944 and 911 wheels are interchangeable. Hope that helps.

They also make adapters to convert the bolt pattern. Basically converts the Porsche pattern to a different one like Ford or Chevy (here in the US anyway). I've seen them on ebay but know nothing about how well they work and what problems arise from using them. Anyone else know?

ROH makes some bolt ons.......

I believe they are from the land down under as well.

I am not sure if they still make the early offset at 5x130..

I've got ROH wheels on my car for summer. Price was okay. Got the 5-spoke and they look killer to my eye. The guys are right - there are usually good deals on used wheels almost everywhere. If I'd known that I may not have gone for the ROH wheels. This was some time ago.

I just bought (ugly but light) flat dish wheels for my car 7 & 8. For an early offset car I don't think you can go wrong with Fuch 16in wheels - very light, strong, classic, they fit, can be had for a reasonable price.

Try Tire Rack

Just bought a set of 17" wheels I am happy with.

I had to roll the drivers side rear fender.
