Exhaust smell in car

I finally got my little project on the road this weekend . . . YEAH! But, I have an exhaust smell in the car while we are driving down the road. I have replaced all the seals (door, rear hatch and sunroof) and the rear hatch shuts nice and tight. So I am not sure where to start looking and thought you guys and gals might be able to help me out.

Also, my fuel pump has an annoying hihg pitch hum to it. Is this normal or do I need a replacement. If I need to replace the pump, has anyone out there tried a universal electric pump to replace the original?

Thanks for the help!

Possibly the seals around the tail lights

I tried to buy new tail light "seals" and was told that they don't have seals. I was told that they are sealed with Butyl Tape. Comes in 1 foot long sections and is real sticky stuff. I just painted the car and used the Butyl tape when I re-installed the tail lights. Maybe I did not get enough in there? I might try pulling them again and putting an extra row around the lights.

Thanks for the reply! I probably would not have gone there since I felt like I sealed them up well but your suggestion may be the ticket.

Another place to check is your shifter boot.....if it is not sealed completely, exhaust smell will get sucked into the cabin.

check the back hatch seal...if you ever drive on a cold morning you will see how the exhausts collects around the hatch seal..one time i drove away with the hatch not fully closed and almost passed out!
