Revising '86 suspension

Hello all,

I've been collecting suspension pieces for the past several months for my '86 turbo with the result of "upgrading" to the '87 and up wheels. Would you tell me if I have everything necessary to to the job right?

The following parts are what I have;
Front lower control arms
Spindles
Front and rear hubs
8's x 9's polished D-90's

I still need the late offset inner turbo tie rods, and what else?

These parts are already on ther car.

Front sway is the 27+-mm (968)
Hollow rear Weltmeister, adj.
Adj. yellow Konis, rears ok but fronts need to be replaced.
Front coil-overs
Strut bar
Lowered and will be corner balanced.
LSD
Track day grooved slicks.

I'm asking for your suspension suggestions as this car gets tracked at Sebring several times a year and is my DD also.

Come on guys and throw me ALL your ideas from the the obvious to the "If I had alot of money to burn" stuff. Things like Charley arms on a street car with adj. camber plates. Are parts like these overkill on the street or not?

Give me a good reason why I should or should not do the stuff you suggest!

Thanks in advance,

Steve Ed

If the Car is seriously lowered to track height then maybe Charlie arms? I went with Ground Control Adjustable camber plates that give lowered cars another inch or 2 of travel. stock old Steal with new Darlin bushen's.

Those longer Ball joints available are also a nice bit of security but probably not necessary. The 944 Spec Racers don't use them.

I also think the Struts might need a shim but can't remember. Look up Racer X Porsche suspension coil over page. http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/

Charlie Arms for a street car are overkill but are the fix all solution to the balljoint problems on the 944 series cars. If you are tracking the car however i think its a worthwhile investment to make eventually as you probably wont ever have to 'deal with' a balljoint problem ever again in the future of the car...aside from normal wear and tear.

The geometry correction balljoints are only really necessary if your car is lowered more than an inch. Even if your car is dropped an inch you dont really need them unless you are running a relatively low spring rate (less than 300lbs). There is nothing wrong with the rebuild balljoint kits available..but if i was building a dedicated track car i would want the best available for a critical part like that. Ive got the geometry correction rebuild kit on my car, 15k miles of hard use and they have held up fine.

Camber plates actually arent overkill on a street / track dual use car. You can easily go from more a more aggressive track alignment setting with more negative camber (which will prolong tire life with hard cornering) to a more forgiving street alignment with less camber.

Money is no object? Tarret Engineering sway bars and i would remove every single rubber bushing from the suspension and go with sealed bearings or delrin. RacersEdge and Elephant Racing sell replacements bushings for every part. If you really want to go all out, KW Variant 3 coil overs... or a nice set of Leda's or Motons. With this setup you have surpassed the purchase price of my car (over $3500) and could probably buy a spare 944 Turbo .

But seriously, if you have all of your bases covered already but still have cash to burn..i would definitley start looking at bushings.
