This is a video clip of my Porsche 944 8v. I have just changed the timing belts, and was wondering if this sounds about right. It's a fairly large file 5 meg.

It must be the balance belt too tight then. (It had a taping sound when cold at first, untill I tightened the timing belt a little) Is the bal belt supposed to be looser than the timing belt?

Just best guess,

have you used the twist method before? not a very wise choice for someone who doesn't have the right feel...

No,
I am looking for a gauge. (Not driving car) I like the looks of the kricket but have not found a place to buy it yet. The Porsche one is just too high.

Duh, (I looked closer at photos on site)
It looks like it (the gauge) can rotate.

well I do, but my opinion doesn't mean much compared to the others on this site....
maybe ask someone to borrow the 920x tool before you buy? I know someone on here was lending their 9201 tool out for free.... might be worth a quick search as i dont remember the user who was being so kind...

One thing though with the 920x gauge you need to have the water pump that has the belt guard, the early pumps did not have this belt guard.

The guy that has a 9201 that loans it out is Nick (many944s). But if you borrow it from him, return it fast as I'll be needing it soon.

I thought I felt my ears burning
![]() Sorry I haven't been on the board much lately, I am in the process of packing up the garage getting ready for the move to my new one.. As for the 9201, PM me with your address and I will get it shipped out to you. It ships in a crash-proof Pelican case (Ha... Pelican)anyway, it will come with instructions and the calibration tool. All I ask for is re-embursement on shipping (you can add a donation when shipping it back, but it is not required). Let me know, Nick

Ok I got the tool today and checked the balance belt. It was 6.6 before. It is set 3.3 now. (That was as close as I could get it, I 'll try to make a tool to hold the adj nut, Its a pain to do without it I can see now)
The timing belt is 8.0 the video is a little dark but it is at the same angle as the before shot. I think it sounds better. The question now is, how do I adjust the timing belt? Because it has a spring tensioner. (Or can I) BTY Thanks Nick
